All About Zambia Pride
Zambia Pride has a mandate to provide foster/home care for the most vulnerable children of Zambia and to provide and facilitate social services and community development within the region. Our organization is located in the ?? rejion. The organization's services are open to all, regardless of gender, religion, tribe or race as long as they are among the most vulnerable in the society. Zambia Pride is focusing on providing education, food, shelter, clothing and other personal needs to the less privileged.
Who cares about us?
The opportunities in life we have are determined by access to resources, education and basic needs. The equality or lack of it is simply based on one thing geographical location.
It is hard to fathom that across the globe talented, skilled people will not be able to have their hard graft work efforts valued, with fairness in humane conditions to meet some of their basic needs. Zambia within 3 years has experienced Cholera, droughts to now extreme flooding. This could be our family impacted. We are one race the human race!!
Our Services
Our Services
We run a children's home in the slum of Kibera. Currently we have 30 kids. Kibera Pride facilitates other projects for both the youth and adults designed to empower the community. These services include:
• Provide foster and home care for the most vulnerable children.
• Provide bursaries, pay schools fees and provide other relevant education materials.
• Provide basic needs, food, clothing and shelter to vulnerable children.
• Social education, guidance and counseling.
• Provide temporary shelter and protection for high risk and abused children.
• Micro-business loans and consultation.
Our Community, Our Home
??? is our home. Many in this the community live in extreme poverty, earning less than $1.00 per day. Unemployment rates are high. Persons living with HIV in the slum are many, as are AIDS cases. Cases of assault and rape are common.
There are few schools, and most people cannot afford education for their children. Clean water is scarce. Diseases caused by poor hygiene are prevalent. A vast majority living in the slum lack access to essential services, including electricity, running water, and medical care.
But at Zambia Pride, we feel it is essential to take pride in your community and to work to make it better. We don't accept things as they are. We know the people and experience goodness and striving for the better.
Meet Our Founder
Michael Harmon Director/Founder
I have always been involved in volunteering during breaks from my full-time teaching position, I support my local community. In 2013 MKC college organised an opportunity to volunteer for 3 weeks in Nakuru, Kenya. The organization was Melon, and our task was to build a storage and toilet facility on a piece of proerty that would eventually be home to a school,
Aside from this
I was able to use my transferable teaching skills and as well as giving out stationery items for the schools in the area and set up food programs from food purchased to feed 250 children. This would enable everyone to eat and have a nutritious meal for the day.
The whole experience showed me the value of what we have and the appreciation of access water, education and health services when needed.
